Itineraries
Day plans that actually flow, grouped so you are not crossing the city twice.
One perfect first day
History in the morning, the old market at midday, and Diriyah for the evening. It moves from the center outward so you end the day at dinner instead of in traffic.
- National Museum. Start here while it is cool
- Masmak Fortress and Souq Al Zal. Old Riyadh and a coffee pot or two
- Local lunch. Kabsa at Al Romansiah or Najd Village
- Diriyah and Bujairi. At-Turaif at sunset, dinner after dark
Old Riyadh on foot
A slower half day around the historic center, walking between the fort, the market, and the museum without moving the car.
- Masmak Fortress. The 1902 story
- Souq Al Zal. Carpets, antiques, bargaining
- National Museum. Finish indoors
Modern Riyadh and city views
The new face of the city. Walk the financial district, ride up for the view, then eat in Olaya.
- King Abdullah Financial District. Striking modern architecture, easy on the metro
- Kingdom Centre Sky Bridge. Go near sunset
- Dinner in Olaya. Lusin or Myazu
Desert day trip
Get out of the city to the cliffs, then come back for dinner. Give it most of a day and plan around the heat.
- Edge of the World. 4x4 or a guided tour, aim for sunset
- Back for a late dinner. You will be dusty and happy
